“There are so many great things about motherhood but there are downsides, too. Am I right? Comparison. Inferiority. Isolation. Anxiety… just to name a few. We’re constantly flaunting our highlight reels on social media for all to see but are so reluctant to reveal the hard things and share all parts of us. We need to stop this, Mamas. We need to break down our walls. We need to find the support we need to be happy, healthy, thriving mamas. That’s why I’m so glad I found Lizzie O’Halloran’s iBook, Perfect Mum“.

What our Calm Parenting Book is All About

The idea for Perfect Mum: How to Survive the Emotional Rollercoaster of Motherhood came about after the birth of my first child. For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a mother; I felt like it was something that I had been preparing for since I was 12 years of age.

When I finally fell pregnant I researched everything I could about having a natural birth and how to raise a healthy, happy baby. One day I was speaking with a friend about creating a feeding and changing routine (based on a parenting book I had read). At the time she questioned my parenting method and implored me to read the book The Continuum Concept.  Well, it literally threw everything I had been studying about raising a baby in doubt. It was then that I started to question how one parenting method can possibly be the correct one when people, children, cultures and religions are so different.

When my daughter finally arrived, the reality of having a baby didn’t fit the advice for new parents I was reading about in parenting books. I had been counselling mums for many years and successfully coached them to improve their self-esteem, self-confidence, careers and health; however, now I knew first hand why so many of them felt lost, lonely, guilty and confused in motherhood.

There is so much advice out there on how to look after your baby physically. You learn how to change a diaper/nappy, how to breast/bottle feed, how to safely place your baby in bed and how to give your baby a bath. But not much else. Mothers are not taught how to deal with sleep deprivation; what to do if their baby doesn’t just sleep in a swaddle; how to deal with the pressures that come with having a new family and so on. This is where a lot of parenting stress kicks in!

Perfect Mum: How to survive the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood was written to provides advice for new parents that you can really use.

The book provides steps and tools required to make positive changes in your life. It also includes interview transcripts and advice from a range of mothers so that other mothers could also learn from their experiences. This is a really valuable advice for new parents.

Since its release Perfect Mum has been officially endorsed by the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) and featured in a range of parenting websites and in social media.

I hope you really enjoy Perfect Mum: How to survive the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood.
